Business Schools

Business schools are typically colleges within a university setting that provide students with an education about all different types of businesses. The average university has separate colleges or schools within it, and the business school might be referred to as a college of business, a business school or a school of business administration. Most students who attend business school will choose a major within the school, such as accounting, finance, administration, business management, economics, information systems, human resources management or public relations.

In addition to the baccalaureate level, many people refer to a graduate institution as business school. This is often a university or institution that provides students an education so that they can earn a master's of business administration degree, or an MBA. While taking MBA courses, students will find themselves learning about all areas of business administration from marketing and accounting to economics and human resources. Every student who is working toward an MBA will also choose a specialization for their degree. This focus then accounts for nearly 25 percent of their course work throughout their studies. Some examples of MBA specializations include international business, management, strategy and marketing, to name a few.

Consistently ranked as one of the top business schools in the United States is Harvard Business School, the graduate level college at Harvard University. This is a private business school that is based out of Boston, Massachusetts and was founded in 1908. Historically it has produced some of the most well known business people in the United States and across the globe. In addition to the MBA program, the school also offers doctoral business programs as well as executive programs for students who want to achieve executive status in the business world. Some of the most famous alumni from the business school include CEO of Time, Inc. Ann S. Moore, former President of the United States George W. Bush and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Other top business schools across the country include Stanford University, the University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, to name a few. Most of these business schools are intimate and elite institutions, with enrollment hovering between 500 and 2,000 students. Students from all different backgrounds end up pursuing an education at a business school in order to improve their career path. Students can opt to attend business school either full-time or part-time, depending on their current situation.
